Organizing Threads

What should be the first things to do when organizing your forums? I mean I know that you have to group same topics in one subforum but what's next? When is too many breaking down into subforums too much?

When you're just starting out, if you have too many forums and they aren't being used, it makes your site look like it's empty. You'd be better off starting with fewer forums and then adding more as the number of users, posts and threads increase.

yeah, just concentrate on one thing and keep everything small and in a couple of forums to start

I've never even considered that mikelbeck! How many forums would you start out with then in a new forum?

I would probably say around 5 and just keep posting in them alot to make your forum look busy.

I think it depends on the topic of the forum...

For example, I have a site that's a fun, bar type forum. That one started out with 9 forums. I've been adding more as the site has picked up.

I've got another one that's related to casino gaming. That one has just started, it has around 18 forums in 3 different categories.

it all depends on the type of your forum. i wouldn't start with too many or your forum looks dead.

A dead forum is a dead forum! Ever went to a party and found only one or two people are present? You didn't stay too long I bet. It's the same with forums. I don't even bother with forums with one or two members. Some people think with hundreds of different articles people are going to stay. It's the poeple first and foremost that draw you in and then the articles. Keep it simple at first, then add to your forum.
