We're also looking for ways to increase the traffic to the discussion forum and help build our community.

We were thinking of launching a monthly photo contest hosted on the forum with prizes in cash or digital equipment.

Nice looking site. You could probably use a skin or two to make it a little more "custom" looking.

Also I would think that you should pare down the amount of forums you have, at least until you start getting some more users & posts. The way it is now it looks empty.

yep I know that the forum looks pretty empty with all those categories and topics, however we hope to have them populated in a short period of time by launching a series of campaigns.
Although for the beginning the budget will be limited to ~$200/month we hope that by launching the monthly photo contest, together with paying some experienced moderators to start a few threads the users/posts will start to come.

Let me know if you think there's anything else I should do to jump start the whole process.
