For uk hosting I can highly recommend clook.net - my only connection with them is as a satisfied customer.

My fav is BeTheHost, never had any problems... they own their own servers which is great.. no down time, only when they upgraded servers a few weeks ago, support is excellent, accept paypal, and the following package only costs me £4.09 / $7.95 a month.
