Default .com domains

I've been looking hard to find a good .com name for my forum, but I really would like to know how they work and how you get them.

Like how you pay, where you pay, how much you pay, and then what happens when all is done.

Could somebody fill me in on .com domains??

Thanks

what i would advise is buy a domain name from someone like namecheap.com THEN get hosting your provider will ask for your domain and set it up for you all you will need to do is go to namecheap sign in and change the nameservers which takes 30seconds (i only learnt this a year ago with ym 1st domain)
